Uncirculated: All the characteristics of a new penny remain. The original mint luster is unbroken with no wear to the coin. Toning to a light brown is possible however rotating the coin under a light reveals undisturbed luster underneath. Examine the highest areas for signs of wear. The first to exhibit abrasions is hair above the eye and curls behind her neck.
Extremely Fine: Sharply defined describes this extremely fine grade. You have to look close to find the small amount of wear present on the hair just above the ear. Notice a slight flattening to the cheek below her eye, and the ribbon trailing below her headdress. Overall a nice coin with a pleasing appearance.
Fine: Noticeable are parts of the hair and headband have worn to the point of merging. Feather details are missing at the ends. Her cheek no longer is rounded. Despite this moderate wear your 1875 penny still has a pleasing look and is worth considerably more than a lower grade.
Good: Extensive use has worn the majority of this coin away. Most detail separating the feathers, headband, and hairline above her face is smooth and missing. Collectors and dealers prefer a full rim if considering a coin as reaching the "good" grade.
Clearly this coin has survived with its original mint luster, placing it immediately in the "rare" category. Additionally it never entered circulation avoiding wear to its surfaces. And it avoided any scuff marks, nicks or abrasions. 1875 pennies are very rare in this condition.
